How to Play a Baccarat Game

The game of baccarat starts with betting. Each of the up to fourteen players places their bets in any of the three betting areas. The Bank and the Player are the two main betting areas in a baccarat table. Most of the bets are placed in either one of these. The third betting area is called the "stand-off", where the bets are placed if the baccarat player feels that the Bank and the Player will have similar hands and results in a tie.

After all the players have placed their bets, the cards will be dealt by either someone from the casino or one of the players. Some casinos let the players do the dealing of the cards, which is done in rotation among them. Two cards will be dealt for each of the main betting areas, face up. A third card will be dealt if the hands do not total either a nine or an eight according to the rules that are automatically followed in every baccarat table. An eight or nine values of the hand are called "natural".

In baccarat, the hands can never be busted. If the hand exceeds nine, the two digits will be added and its sum will be the value of the hand. The Kings, Queens, Jacks and tens are considered to have no value. When these cards are added to other cards, which retain their face value, it will not affect the value of the hand.

Once the values of the hands are already established, the hand that has a value closest to nine wins the round. Winnings will be distributed and the bets that lose will be collected. A certain amount of the winning will be deducted and paid to the casino.
